Bye Robur sign (hello grocery sign)

A couple of posts ago I described the uncovering of a grocer's sign in Reynard Street Coburg:

What I didn't realise then was that the demolition of the milk bar building that covered the sign also resulted in the loss of another sign - one I posted a pic of in February:

Here are Google Pics of the former milk bar, with the destroyed Robur sign and the garden of the residence that used to be there until last week:

Sydney ghost signs

Have just returned from a few days in Sydney, a city whose ghost signs are relatively scarce, judging by my few days of meandering. It has the requisite old buildings, the large population and the intense competition. But maybe this beautiful and lively centre of commerce has had less of the boom-bust dynamic of Melbourne - growth followed by neglect that allows things to be created, then to sit and be? In Sydney, it seems, things are always moving - renewed, torn down, painted over. But a few traces have remained. Here are the ones I've found.

An uncovering

This morning I was dropping my kids off at school. Directly opposite the school, I saw this: what an unexpected and marvellous uncovering.

I'd previously snapped the end of this sign when the building was there, but had no idea what else was there. See:
